Overview

This diploma offers professional development for paraprofessional and professional level interpreters working between Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and English. You will develop your ability to be a critically reflective practitioner along with solid practical skills. This diploma provides you with a foundation of theory in translation and interpreting and a strong focus on the application of theory to practical skills development.

Suitable if you are a paraprofessional level Auslan-English interpreter who want to develop your skills to a professional level. Also suitable if you are a professional Auslan-English interpreter who is already qualified at a professional level but and want to further develop your interpreting skills and analysis.

Entry requirements

1. NAATI paraprofessional accreditation in Auslan/English awarded at least 2 years prior.

2. Undergraduate degree (or equivalent in special circumstances).

3. Fluency in Auslan and English, and a high level of English literacy.

If you wish to request recognition for previous extensive interpreting experience in lieu of undergraduate qualifications, you may be considered on an individual basis, and you will be required to provide evidence of substantial professional development activity.

If you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent you satisfy the English proficiency requirements.

Work experience requirements

Minimum 2 years post-paraprofessional accreditation work as an Auslan/English interpreter, ideally in a range of interpreting settings and with a variety of clients.
