Postgraduate Diploma of Social Health and Counselling

Overview

This diploma will equip you with a broad knowledge and understanding of the personal and social contexts within which social health issues arise and are maintained, the impact of social health issues, and the current responses to these phenomena. You will develop a critical appreciation of the variety of preventative strategies, and a basic competence in developing and implementing such strategies, together with knowledge of the variety of current treatment approaches and goals, and of their relationship to current social health practices.

  • You should have achieved the basic competencies of the Postgraduate Certificate of Social Health and Counselling.
  • This diploma will further develop your skills with training in the intervention approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Narrative and the application of these skills to a range of areas including grief and loss, mediation, trauma and mental health problems. 
  • Multidisciplinary program provides a socio-cultural analysis on physical and psychological health including illness prevention, health promotion, identification, crisis intervention, individual and community interventions, and relapse prevention.

Entry requirements

Bachelor degree in a related field or Postgraduate Certificate in Social Health & Counselling. You will be subject to competitive selection based on an interview process.

English language requirements

If you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent you satisfy the English proficiency requirements.

Work experience requirements

Work experience in the field is encouraged during study so you can put into practice the knowledge and skills you are gaining during the course.

Notes:

A minimum of a credit or above per unit is required if you wish to credit units in this diploma to the Master of Social Health and Counselling. Applications for the Master's program are competitive.

The Social Health & Counselling Program courses are not designed to be a direct entry qualification to any other post-graduate programs.

The Social Health & Counselling Program does not lead to registration as a Psychologist. If you wish to gain membership to allied professional associations, you will need to meet the criteria relevant to registration in those associations.
