Postgraduate Diploma of Special Education

Overview

This program is based upon a contemporary view of applied behaviour analysis and will allow you to develop your interest in special education and an appreciation for the dignity and rights of all people to learn, regardless of their physical or intellectual disabilities or other special needs.

A prior teaching qualification is not required unless you want to work as a special education teacher in schools. Career opportunities exist in a wide range of special education and disability settings from the preschool years to adulthood.

Entry requirements

Bachelor degree or equivalent in a relevant professional discipline (see list below) or bachelor degree and relevant professional or personal experience.

Physiotherapy

Nursing

Medicine

Social work

and related areas

 

Relevant professional experience includes Graduate Diploma or Post Graduate studies in same areas as above or a job that involved working with people with disabilities, other training in disability related areas (eg MULTILIT training).

 

Relevant personal experience includes being the carer, parent or sibling of a child with a disability.

English language requirements

If you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent you satisfy the English proficiency requirements.

If you successfully complete the requirements for this diploma, you may have these units credited towards the Master of Special Education (upon admission to the Master's program).

1. Find your chosen course in the Postgraduate Course List. Check that the course is offered in the Session that you are applying for and the application method will be shown in the 'Apply to' column.

2. Complete the Application form and follow the instructions for methods to submit and closing dates.

3. Check the Postgraduate Forms webpage to determine if your course also requires a Supplementary Form to be submitted.
