Overview
The aim of this program is to provide proficient bilinguals with the linguistic, technical and professional skills to work as translators and/or interpreters, as well as an academic grounding in translation and interpreting theory and research skills. The program is offered in a number of languages depending on demand and resources. Languages offered include Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Korean. You can choose to specialise in either Translating or Interpreting. For further information on the specialisations, please click the 'What You Will Study' tab.
This specialisation is designed to develop your professional skills as a translator and will allow you to explore tranlsation practice, professional translation practice and the use of technology in translation. The program is offered in a number of languages depending on demand and resources.

- Classes are conducted in computer labs with the most up-to-date classroom management, language learning and translation software to enhance student learning.
- The Diploma of Translating and Interpreting is a pathway to the Master of Advanced Translation and Master of Conference Interpreting for eligible students.

Entry requirements
You will need:
- A Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in T&I, Linguistics, Language of Cultural Studies, or other related fields.
- IELTS 7.0 OR equivalent ORcompletion of 3 year Bachelor degree in Australia with a pass in the T&I assessment task.
If your first language is not English, you must have IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.5 in all bands or TOEFL 600 or CTOEFL 250. If you have a lower level of English, you may enrol in the Translation and Interpreting Preparatory Program (TIPP) taught in the Centre for Macquarie English (CME) at Macquarie University.
If you have completed all of your primary and high school education within Australian schools, you will be deemed to have met the English language proficiency levels.

No work experience is required.
Notes:
Chinese (Mandarin) is available in Semesters 1 and 2. Korean and Japanese are available in Semester 1 only.
