Overview
The Doctor of Physiotherapy is a professional entry level Masters (Extended) and will produce physiotherapists with advanced clinical decision making abilities to practise person centred healthcare in contemporary healthcare environments. You will learn the skills of the physiotherapist based on the best available evidence to effectively assess, diagnose, treat and educate people across all ages with disorders of movement resulting from a range of conditions. You will graduate with advanced clinical skills as well as business, management and leadership training and be ready to launch a fulfilling career as a physiotherapist across a broad range of health care settings.
Key features
- Combination of coursework and supervised clinical practicum; you will undertake 150 days of clinical placements, both integrated throughout your program and in 5 week blocks.
- You will learn from leading physiotherapy academics and researchers as well as expert clinicians to provide you with a sound foundation of evidence based physiotherapy practice.
- You will be required to complete a research project.

Entry requirements
- Completion of at least a Bachelor's degree* with a GPA above 2.5 and with at least 1 tertiary unit in each of the following areas: Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Psychology and Research Methods. The following tertiary level subjects are desired pre-requisite knowledge: biomechanics, pharmacology, exercise physiology, pathophysiology, motor learning and performance, and neuroscience.
- International students must demonstrate English language skills at IELTS academic level 7, with no component less than 7, or the equivalent.
Places are limited and entry will be competitive. Meeting the eligibility criteria will not guarantee a place in the program.
*Applicants whose Bachelor’s degree was awarded over 10 years ago should contact the Course Director, as you are required to have undertaken some of the pre-requisite tertiary units listed within the last 10 years.

If you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent you satisfy the English proficiency requirements.

A limited number of CSPs will be available and will be offered to students based on merit. To be considered for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) applications must be complete and submitted by 5pm Friday 11 May, 2012. Information about fees and Fee Help is available on the Macquarie University website.
- Non-CSP applications close 31 May 2012.

Student Income Support: This degree has qualified for the Government Student Income Support scheme. Students should contact their local Centrelink office for more information about eligibility and applications.
- This degree will commence mid-year 2012.
- This program is a Masters Degree (Extended) under the Australian Qualification Framework Level 9 classification. It is not a doctorate. A 3 year Masters Degree (extended) has approval allowing the title of “Doctor of...” for five professions including physiotherapy.

Applying for admission to the Doctor of Physiotherapy will be a two-step process:
- Applications from domestic students will be accepted through Universities Admission Centre (UAC)
- Applicants will be required to submit a list of completed prerequisite and desired knowledge areas and their descriptors using the Doctor of Physiotherapy Supplementary Information Form. This form will be available through UAC and is on the postgraduate website.

Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a physiotherapist subject to the program satisfactorily meeting the accreditation requirements of theAustralian Physiotherapy Council.

A/Prof Catherine Dean
Associate Professor Catherine Dean is the Inaugural Director and Head of Program for Physiotherapy. Her research interests are developing and testing of rehabilitation strategies to increase activity and participation after stroke, translating evidence into practice and clinical education. She comes with a wealth of experience as a researcher and educator in physiotherapy.
