Overview
The Master of Applied Linguistics degree has been designed to cover theoretical and methodological issues relevant to practitioners in a variety of professions whose work is concerned with applied language study. The degree is internationally relevant and focuses on the development of discourse analytic skills and understanding the complex relationship between language use, context and research in these areas.
The Masters, Diploma and Certificate are offered in 3 specialisations: General Applied Linguistics, Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Language for Specific Purposes (LSP). For information on the specialisations please click on the 'What you Will Study' tab.

Entry requirements
Bachelor degree or equivalent or Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics in one of the 3 specialisations with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
A minimum of two years full time or equivalent relevant professional or language teaching experience depending on the specialisation you are interested in. You will also be required to submit proof of work experience in the form of a letter, on your employer's letterhead stating length of time employed, whether full time or part time and nature of duties as well as a completed Supplementary Form.

If you have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent you satisfy the English proficiency requirements.

Work experience requirements

Notes:
If you successfully complete the Master of Applied Linguistics and achieve a grade of GPA 3.0 or above in your program, you can apply for entry into the Postgraduate Certificate Research Preparation (Human Sciences) to complete a dissertation.
