Careers

Career Opportunities

There is a critical shortage of professionally trained statisticians in Australia. Major sectors such as medical research and development are unable to recruit suitable professionals. There are also career opportunities in both public and private sectors. Key government agencies such as Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Defence Science Technology Organisation (DSTO) and Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) employ statisticians to inform decisions, do research and initiate discussion within the community and government. In the corporate world, financial institutions and insurance companies require statisticians to perform operation research, manage risk and analyse data for modelling and forecasting.

Employers

  • insurance companies
  • financial institutions
  • government departments
