Overview
The Master of Environmental Education is offered jointly by the Graduate School of the Environment and Macquarie University’s Department of Education. This program explores the role and scope of education in attaining environmental and sustainable development goals. Students learn to identify principles of good practice in order to plan and evaluate programs in environmental education and education for sustainable development. Emphasis is also placed on the communication and interpretation process, and effective communication techniques at various local, national and international levels, within informal and non-formal education.
A balance of studies in environmental and sustainability issues and educational units is determined by students as they plan their own learning goals. The degree encourages learner managed learning with the aim of developing an integrated understanding of the field or to pursue special interests.

Entry requirements
The basic admission qualification is the completion of a recognised Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

There are positions for Environmental/ Sustainability Educators in state government, local government, museums, non-government organisations, community organisations, consultancy and the corporate world. There are many opportunities where awareness of and change for sustainable environmental practice needs to be raised. International positions exist in organisations like UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme)

Our Expertise
Wendy Goldstein
Wendy Goldstein is the Program Coordinator for the Environmental Education and Sustainable Development Programs in the Graduate School of the Environment (GSE). She joined the University after 14 years of working internationally for IUCN – the International Union for Conservation as Head of Education and Communication in Gland, Switzerland. She is now Deputy Chair of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication. Her previous position was Head of Environmental Education in NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Her research interests are in social change and managing learning and change processes and good governance.
