Master of Translating and Interpreting with a specialisation in Translation Studies

Overview
The aim of this program is to provide proficient bilinguals with the linguistic, technical and professional skills to work as translators and/or interpreters, as well as an academic grounding in translation and interpreting theory and research skills.
The program is offered in a number of languages depending on demand and resources. Languages offered include Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Korean.
You can specialise in interpreting or translating in 18 months, or you can pursue a double specialisation over 2 years.
This specialisation will allow you to develop your translation abilities through a range of units covering topics including:
- Subtitling
- Use of technology in translation
- Advanced Translation
- Research Methods
You may also choose units which specifically examine Translation and Interpreting in Business, Legal, Medical and Technical areas.

Entry requirements
You will need:
- A Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in T&I, Linguistics, Language of Cultural Studies, or other related fields.
- IELTS 7.0 OR equivalent OR completion of 3 year Bachelor degree in Australia with a pass in the T&I assessment task.
If your first language is not English, you must have IELTS (Academic) 7.00 with a minimum score of 6.5 in all bands or TOEFL 600 or CTOEFL 250. If you have a lower level of English, you may enrol in the Translation and Interpreting Preparatory Program (TIPP) taught in the Centre for Macquarie English (CME) at Macquarie University.
If you have completed all of your primary and high school education within Australian schools, you will be deemed to have met the English language proficiency levels.

Work experience requirements
No work experience is required.
Notes:
Chinese (Mandarin), Korean and Japanese are available in Semesters 1 and 2.
You will be required to complete a Translating & Interpreting Academic Writing Skills workshop. Workshops are free and will be 3 hours long, you will have to complete this workshop in your first semester. Certificates of attendance will be provided.
