Overview

Media describes the worlds of television, newspapers, radio and film. The relationship between the media and law is evolving rapidly and this degree will make you uniquely positioned to respond to those changes.

This double degree lets you study contemporary approaches to media theory with practical production techniques. You can study:

  • Screen Production
  • Writing
  • Multimedia
  • Radio Production
  • Public Relations

You'll also learn about established areas of law and areas of contemporary concern such as consumer law, environmental law, health law and information technology law. You'll learn the role of the media and law in society and develop a sense of social responsibility.

Careers

Accreditation

The Macquarie LLB is accredited with professional bodies regulating the admission of law graduates to legal practice. The Bachelor of Laws provides the appropriate qualification for admission to practice as a lawyer throughout Australia.

In addition to completing a law program at an accredited institution, the profession requires all law graduates to complete a period of Practical Legal Training including further study and supervised experience in a legal practice, before being admitted to practice as a barrister or solicitor.This typically takes a further 6 months to 1 year.

Graduates can pursue careers where their media studies allow them to specialise in their work as legal practitioners (barristers or solicitors), legal officers in public or private sectors, and legal academia.
