Overview

Undertake an advanced program of scientific research with specialist studies in astronomy and astrophysics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, palaeobiology, physics or software technology.

Designed for gifted and talented students, this elite program has a strong research focus.  It provides the flexibility of a Bachelor of Science plus advanced units that are not available to other students. You'll have direct contact with researchers and academics and your skills will be nurtured with individual attention in a small select advanced science group.  

In this degree you'll develop your problem-solving skills, independent and critical thinking and be exposed to cutting-edge research. You'll have the opportunity to undertake your own research project in third year and will gain practical experience in research laboratories and research groups.

The Bachelor of Advanced Science with a Major in Palaeobiology degree at Macquarie University is designed for gifted and talented students in the area of Palaeobiology. It is an elite program which has a strong research focus. It combines the flexibility of the Bachelor of Science with additional research focused, small group units that are designed to foster problem-solving skills, independent thinking and expose students to cutting edge research from the first year of study.

  • The Bachelor of Advanced Science at Macquarie University has one of the highest ATAR cut-offs for a science program in Australia. 
  • As numbers are strictly limited, the small number of students in each study program enables you to receive individual attention, get to know the academic staff, and have direct contact with researchers. 
  • Opportunity to take part in research and gain practical experience working in research laboratories within the University as part of your degree. Students undertake a research project in third year. 
  • Students are offered a scholarship for a vacation research internship with staff in the appropriate discipline, normally during the summer vacation between their second and third years. 
  • Each student is assigned a mentor, a member of the academic staff and a more senior advanced science student that supports your needs and interests throughout your degree. 
  • Special advanced units form part of the degree that are not available to other students. 
  • Many students will go on to do Honours in a fourth year of study.

HSC Mathematics, Biology and one other science subject.
