Early childhood teachers work with children, families and communities to provide quality educational experiences for young children from birth to 12 years. Early childhood teachers are also sought after for consultancy and professional development work in areas of children's services.
In this early childhood education degree you'll study how young children play, explore, learn and develop and grow into healthy children. You'll gain the skills to teach in long day care, preschool and primary school settings.

Entry requirements
If you are seeking employment as a primary teacher in a NSW school you must have achieved a Higher School Certificate English minimum Band 4 (Standard English, English as a Second Language or Advanced English) and Higher School Certificate General Mathematics minimum Band 4 or completion of Mathematics (2 Unit). If you don?t reach this standard on entry you will be required to satisfactorily complete a unit of study in the relevant areas before graduation.

Our Expertise
Kate Highfield
Kate Highfield is both lecturer in mathematics, science and technology in the Institute of Early Childhood at Macquarie University and a PhD student in the Faculty of Human Sciences.
Having spent more than 10 years teaching kindergarten to year 2, Kate was interested in the growing role that technology played to many young children's lives. Kate's PhD research investigates techno-toys, particularly simple robotic toys for use in mathematics learning and problem solving.
