Overview

Develop IT skills to build and use information systems, or manage data.

In this degree you'll explore one of two areas:

Software Technology, focusing on:

  • programming
  • software engineering
  • discrete mathematics

In the Software Technology major you'll study algorithms, data structures and the principles of engineering quality software.  

Business Information Systems, focusing on:

  • information systems concepts and issues
  • information systems for management
  • information systems audit and assurance

In the Business Information Sysytems major you'll develop a solid understanding of information concepts and issues to apply in the globalised business community.

Key features

  • If you major in both areas, you'll learn how to handle low level implementation issues and complete a high level analysis of your client's needs.
  • All students undertake a final year project in order to practise their skills in a software development life cycle.
  • The Bachelor of Information Technology can be combined with the Bachelor of Laws allowing you to complete two bachelor programs in five years of full-time study.

Professor Bernard Mans, Head of the Department of Computing

Professor Bernard Mans has been Head of the Department of Computing at Macquarie University since 2008. His research interests centre on algorithms for mobile and wireless networks. In 2003 he was selected as the HITA CHI Chair at INRIA, the French national institute for research in computer science and control.
