Overview
The main focus of this teaching degree is on working with children birth to five years. Early Childhood teachers work with children, families and communities to provide quality educational experiences for young children in a range of early childhood settings including long day care and preschool.
In this degree you will study how children learn, play and develop, along with the skills to manage and lead early childhood settings.
Students who hold a Diploma of Children's Services receive credit for previous studies which would enable completion in two years.

- ECH113 Play and Inquiry in Early Childhood
- ECH130 Health in early childhood
- ECHP122 Early Childhood Reflective Practice 1
- 9 general credit points at 100 level
- 6 general credit points at 200 level

Our Expertise
Sandra Cheeseman
Sandra Cheeseman is a lecturer in social policy and leadership at the Institute of Early Childhood.
Sandra spent many years teaching, directing and later working in senior management roles in a range of early childhood settings. More recently she is undertaking doctoral studies looking at ‘infants’ encounters with ‘curriculum’ as Australia embraces the first national curriculum document for children from birth. She has a keen interest in engaging students to the synergies between theory and practice and encouraging students to realise their leadership potential.
