Graduate Certificate of Geoscience
View courses for International students.
Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Geoscience provides graduates in disciplines other than science, with foundation knowledge in geoscience. Students are exposed to a variety of teaching techniques in the field and the laboratory, including problem-based learning, group-based work, seminars, and poster presentations. There is a significant fieldwork component, ranging from weekend excursions to intensive week-long programs of mapping and understanding rocks in the field.
Key features
- Geologists and Geophysicists are highly favourable for employment prospects. Science, writing and critical thinking are the three most important skills of geoscientists - areas that are emphasised in the units that comprise this program.
- Geology is an international profession, with a particularly strong basis in Australia due to our mineral wealth. All the units in this program teach an international perspective of geology.
Minimum course duration
1 year/equivalent part-time
Location
North Ryde
Suitable for
Students who have an undergraduate degree in another subject, who may have been working for several years, sometimes in jobs peripheral to geoscientists (eg in non-geoscience roles in mining companies), or in completely unrelated areas (eg nursing, teaching), and who have decided to update their knowledge in geoscience.
