Overview

A two-year, full-time diploma designed for people who already have a degree, plus a recognised first year in psychology and statistics, and who would like to pursue second- and third-year psychology units. If you have not completed first year psychology and statistics you can complete this at Macquarie University as a part-time, non award student and then apply to do the Graduate Diploma. Contact the Centre for Open Education on (02) 9850 7470 for more details. We will also accept first-year psychology units that are completed via Open Universities.

It is possible to undertake extra units to become eligible for Psychology (Honours), but you would need to seek academic advice.

Key features

This award is designed for people who already have a degree that includes a recognised first year in Psychology and Statistics, and who would now like to take second- and third-year psychology units without having to complete another whole degree. The degree covers a broad range of topics including personality, perception, neuroscience, learning, biopsychology, social and personality psychology, organisational psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology and cognitive processes. This is a degree with an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited sequence of study.

Entry requirements

A degree that includes a recognised first year in Psychology and Statistics.

From 2012 onwards, students who have completed an APAC accredited psychology major, within the last ten years, will not be eligible to apply for the Graduate Diploma in Psychology. To check if your degree is accredited, please see the following website:

Macquarie University offers the following postgraduate options for registration as a psychologist in NSW:

  • Two-year postgraduate masters degree in: Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology or Organisational Psychology
  • Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Applied Psychology. This is a psychology registration program that assists fourth year Psychology graduates with supervised internship to complete their professional practice and be eligible for registration.

For eligibility to Psychology Honours, applicants must have at least 39 credit points, which must include PSY349 and PSY351 plus four 300-level electives, which is a total of 18 credit points of Psychology units at 300-level.
